The What
The Surah Fātihah National Tour is a highly engaging workshop that focuses solely on the tajweed of Surah Fātihah. Even though Surah Fātihah is the Surah we all know the best, there are many common tajweed hiccups that people make when reciting it. Some of the errors are major and result in changing the meaning of the surah while some are basic. In this workshop, we home in on all of them by addressing them one-by-one from start to finish.
The Why
Why conduct a workshop on the proper recitation of Surah Fātihah? Surah Fātihah is the only surah in the entire Quran which is obligatory to recite in our prayers for them to be valid. Therefore, most scholars have said that perfecting its recitation is an absolute necessity.
The Who
This workshop is intended for the whole family, whether you are a revert or born Muslim. If you have Surah Fātihah memorized, then it is for you. There is no age limit nor is there a specific target demographic.
What does Allaah, His messenger, and the scholars say
about learning proper recitation of the Quran?
"...and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones."

Hadith:
'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported:
The Messenger of Allah said, "The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur'an will be with the honourable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur'an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have two rewards."

The How
- Brief intro to the noble science of tajweed
- Conduct thorough analysis of āyah 1 by identifying common errors
- Correct each error one-by-one from start to finish
- Audience engages and chimes in all throughout
- Recite full aayah collectively
- Open floor for volunteers to have recitation examined
- Repeat for āyāt 2-7
The Goal
The primary goal is to work towards perfecting our recitation of Surah Fātihah while igniting a desire to correctly recite all of what we have memorized. In doing so, we hope to further enhance the richness of our prayer as well as our love for Allaah’s Book. By the end of the workshop, our view of Quranic recitation will be forever transformed, in shaa Allaah.
