Studying with Measured Tones Institute (MTI) for about three years has been a blessing! Ustadh Ashir and Ustadh Ahmed have guided my tajweed learning experience in a positive, consistent, and impactful way. The patience and care they take with each of us has been most helpful because I am extremely insecure when it comes to my personal recitation of the Qur’an.

MTI classes have been a safe space for me to continue to become more proficient in my understanding of the rules and appropriate pronunciation of The Qur’an. It’s difficult to describe in words the value of MTI. I do not exaggerate when I say that MTI is a beacon of light here in the US. My relationship with the Quran was made possible by MTI, Alhamdulillah. My husband and I have learned to read the Quran with Tajweed from Ustadh Ashir Kirk’s classes free of charge! And we continue to improve our reading of the Quran with Tajweed with Ustadh Ashir under his expert vigilance. I’ve been studying Tajweed with Ustadh Ashir for almost a year, and it has been a truly rewarding experience. He is extremely patient and explains both the makharij and Tajweed rules in a way that is easy to understand and apply. Beyond simply improving my recitation, he has taught me the importance of paying attention to the small details and giving every letter its proper right. This has helped me approach the Qur’an with more care, intention, and respect. I’m very grateful for his guidance and teaching style.

I truly am glad that I have been given this opportunity to say something about this class. This class made me realize that I lacked the knowledge of reciting the Quran properly and that I have to work really hard to learn and improve my recitation. Since joining this tajweed class, the Quran has become my biggest concern. The day my teacher, Shaykh Adrian “Ashir” Kirk, told me my recitation of Surah Fatiha has improved, was the happiest day of my life. It was very rewarding. I even called my friend to tell her as well as my kids! This class means a lot to me and thanks to it I am more focused on my prayers now Alhamdulilah.

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the Measures Tones Institute Quran program. Alhamdulillah, I have been part of MTI for the past two years, and the impact this program has had on my Quran recitation and confidence is truly beyond words.

During my time at MTI, I had the honor of studying under both Ustadh Ahmed and Ustadh Ashir. Over the past year, due to my 9–5 work schedule, I have been consistently attending Ustadh Ahmed’s class as it aligns best with my availability. Alhamdulillah, I began with Surah Al-Fatiha and have now completed two juz under his guidance. My tajweed, fluency, and confidence in recitation have improved tremendously.

Before joining MTI, I used to feel extremely anxious reciting Quran in group settings, especially alongside sisters who were reciting longer surahs. I lacked confidence in my tajweed and feared making mistakes. However, through the discipline and high standards maintained by Ustadh Ahmed—who would not allow me to pass even with minor mistakes—I was pushed to improve. That level of care and dedication transformed my relationship with the Quran. Today, Alhamdulillah, I can confidently recite any surah without fear.

Because of MTI, I have been able to complete a khatam every month. This month, insha’Allah, will mark my 35th khatam. I have completed khatam with my teachers, who have witnessed my progress firsthand, and I have now begun completing khatam independently as well. Alhamdulillah, I am also teaching my younger cousins, family members, and friends, as I strongly believe it is our responsibility to pass on what we have learned to our ummah.

One of the greatest blessings I never imagined for myself is that last year, Alhamdulillah, I co-hosted a Sisters’ Ramadan Khatam alongside another teacher. This year, by the mercy of Allah, I am hosting my second Sisters’ Ramadan Khatam, with participation from many of my respected teachers and sisters from all around the world. Wallahi, this would never have been possible had I not been a student at the Measures Tones Institute.

I am deeply grateful to all the teachers and everyone behind the scenes who dedicate their time, energy, and knowledge for the sake of the Quran—time they could have spent elsewhere. May Allah reward each and every one of you abundantly, grant you and your families barakah, accept your efforts, and grant you Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah bless you with everything your hearts desire, in this dunya and the akhirah. Jazakum Allahu khairan for everything.

Subhana Allah, it is a honor and pleasure to be a member of the Measured Tones Institute Community as a Senior Citizen! What an amazing, beneficial, and rewarding way to keep these old brain cells of mine “active, snapping, and moving” to the beautifully written calligraphy of the Arabic Alphabets, the stretches of the MADDs, and the striking sounds of the heavy letters and Qalqalah! Alhamdulillah, after just one workout of the eyes, mouth, and tongue… both sides of my brain becomes stronger and healthier! The ears are just in heaven, as they listen to the recitation of others! Great for those like me suffering from astigmatism!

I’m ecstatic and extremely grateful to be a participant in MTI’s (Measured Tones Institute) weekly Arabic Tajweed class. Many of us have a deep desire to learn Arabic properly but can’t afford to pay qualified teachers to guide us as it can take years to become proficient in Quranic Arabic. I am tickled and very pleased with my personal progress and I credit the teaching style and the commitment to excellence of our teachers, Shaykh Ashir Kirk and Shaykh Ahmed.

Br. Ashir Kirk is sooo welcoming and quickly makes one feel like part of the MTI’s Arabic (Tajwid) class family. His commitment in guiding us to excellence is outstanding and Br. Ahmed is the same as well as he brings the sweetest and calmest persona to the classroom. I pray to continue with this class and reach my goal of completing a Khatma (completion of the Qur’an) with correct tajweed and I’m encouraging my family and friends to embrace this blessing. Measured Tones Institute of Quran (MTI) has helped me and many others to establish, nourish and cement a relationship with the most important Book in the universe: a guidance for all of mankind, al-Quran al-Karim. Intending and making the effort to recite this Book as it was meant to be recited opens up a well-spring of blessings that no one can measure nor express in words. MTI gives the gift of tarteel, measured and correct recitation, that keeps on giving to us without asking anything from us in return. What I really like about MTI Tajweed is that they not only offer free tajweed sessions for all levels, but the teachers are also available to answer any questions and very helpful. Thanks to them, I improved my tajweed with Sheikh Ashir. The classes are short, efficient and very beneficial.
